Thorn In The Thigh (Earth Suit Index)

The Apostle Paul writes about a thorn in is flesh.

2 Corinthians 12:7 GNT But to keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw, I was given a painful physical ailment, which acts as Satan’s messenger to beat me and keep me from being proud.
2 Corinthians 12:7 GNT

We all have something, maybe even some place, or someone that gets under our skin.

We all have one issue or another with our health.

The older we get the more we begin to notice things in our bodies that are changing.

One elderly man said,

Every morning I wake up I wonder which part of me won’t work as well today as it did yesterday.

The things we encounter while in this flesh & bones body are all reminders to us that we are human.

The good news is,

Our bodies, these earth suits, are just temporary.

May we remember that the best is yet to come.

In the meantime, we need not be dismayed or get caught up on our physical, financial, emotional, or other difficulties.

Don’t sweat the small stuff, and it is all small stuff (There is a great book by that title too).

A Thistle or Two

Work at getting along with each other and with God. Otherwise you’ll never get so much as a glimpse of God. Make sure no one gets left out of God’s generosity.

Keep a sharp eye out for weeds of bitter discontent. A thistle or two gone to seed can ruin a whole garden in no time.

Watch out for the Esau syndrome: trading away God’s lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite. You well know how Esau later regretted that impulsive act and wanted God’s blessing—but by then it was too late, tears or no tears.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor (God’s Hood)

1 John 4:7‭-‬21 MSG

My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God.

The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because

God is love

—so you can’t know him if you don’t love.

This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him.

This is the kind of love we are talking about—

not that we

once upon a time

loved God, but that HE loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.

My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other.

No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!

This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us:

He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit.

Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world.

Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God.

We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.

God is love.

When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us.

This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s.

There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.

We, though, are going to

love—love and be loved.

First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first.

If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar.

If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see?

The command we have from Christ is blunt:

Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.

1 John 4:7‭-‬21 MSG

It is written.

Enough said.

Chief Critics

“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.” He quoted a proverb: “‘Can a blind man guide a blind man?’ Wouldn’t they both end up in the ditch? An apprentice doesn’t lecture the master. The point is to be careful who you follow as your teacher. “It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this I-know-better-than-you mentality again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your own part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

Perfect Plan for Imperfect People.

Hebrews 10:11‭-‬18 MSG

Perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people.

Every priest goes to work at the altar each day, offers the same old sacrifices year in, year out, and never makes a dent in the sin problem. As a priest, Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it! Then he sat down right beside God and waited for his enemies to cave in. It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process.

The Holy Spirit confirms this: This new plan I’m making with Israel isn’t going to be written on paper, isn’t going to be chiseled in stone; This time “I’m writing out the plan in them, carving it on the lining of their hearts.”

He concludes, I’ll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. Once sins are taken care of for good, there’s no longer any need to offer sacrifices for them.

Do You Know or Not Know?

Do You Know? (Song by Dogs Of Peace:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord , the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become tired or grow weary; There is no searching of His understanding. He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power. Even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.
ISAIAH 40:28‭-‬31 AMP

In another post I wrote called, “The Maze” I expressed myself to Christ, with confusion in my mind, as I was struggling through this maze we call life. As He asked me if I wanted to do life my way or His way I replied,

“Lord, you know my heart!”

He replied,

“Yes, I know your head too.”

I cry, “Lord fix me.”

He cries, “Fix your eyes on Me.”
