Computer Conscience (Say it with music Sweet Comfort Band)

Today the lyrics to a song by Sweet Comfort Band called “Computer Age” really got me thinking. This song is from the ’80s but still very realitive today.

Here is the song & lyrics:

She does aerobics to start the day

But you can find her playing video games
On her home computer screen
She’s the best you’ve ever seen
She keeps appointments, she’s never late
Only goes out on computer dates
Made on answering machines
She’s the all-American teen
She’s growing up in the computer age
Her mind’s in gear
Her heart’s been disengaged
The future’s clear
It’s all been pre-arranged
She’s growing up in the computer age
She’s a product of society
Completely lacking personality
She was brought into the world
As a test tube baby girl
Her name is Debbie, or Cathy, or Sue
Maybe you know her
Maybe it’s you
She’s become like all the rest
Who’ve been programmed for success
She’s growing up in the computer age
Her mind’s in gear
Her heart’s been disengaged
The future’s clear
It’s all been pre-arranged
She’s growing up in the computer age
She’s got American Bandstand
To show her how to dance
She’s got cable movies
To tell her about romance
But she won’t dream of Mr. Right
Electric blankets keep her warm at night
She’s growing up in the computer age
Her mind’s in gear
Her heart’s been disengaged
The future’s clear
It’s all been pre-arranged
She’s growing up in the computer age
Growin’ up, growin’ up
She’s got an IBM
That’s the apple of her eye
She doesn’t think for herself
Leads an automated llife
Growin’ up🎧🔌📝🎵🎶🎤👂

With this in mind i consider how much more important it is to

go to God rather than google

for the deepest needs of my soul.

Perhaps you wish going to bed could fully recharge you & even change your circumstances. Unfortunately it’s not that easy. Even going away on a retreat doesn’t make all the problems & battles you’re fighting just go away.

Praise God that we don’t have to face our struggles & battles alone.

Believers in Christ, plug into Him & let His Holy Spirit in you recharge & equip you in whatever draining, exhausting, seemingly hopless reality you’re facing.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

1 Co. 1:3-9, “May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. I always thank my God for you and for the gracious gifts he has given you, now that you belong to Christ Jesus. Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Quest

Question not how far can I go in any particular situation & still be close to God & please him?

Ask how close can I get to God, remain close & true to Him in whatever situation I am in?

While at a party, on a date or at a ball game have you ever felt like your loyalty to God is challenged?  I guess it depends on what party, date or ball game.

I believe our relationship with God can be compared to any good, loyal meaningful commitment we have.

If you’re in love with “The Lord”, pledged your life to Him, it will show & as you do things that aren’t pleasing to Him you won’t have to necessarily look up the 10 commandments and check them off 1 by 1 to make sure you’re keeping in line. His Holy Spirit in our lives can rule & reign to the point of changing our desires & even making us feel grief over what grieves Him.

Give Him time & He’ll continue to help you grow & mature. He’s still working on me after all these years.

Before even deciding to go some place ask, “If I go there & do this or that how pleasing can I be to God there? Will I compromise God’s standards? Will I feel like justifying my behavior or will I stay true to The Light (Christ)?”

We gotta walk in The Light as He is in The Light no matter how dark things get.

Now, if being around certain people or situations we find that we can’t be ethically sound, pure,  a man\woman of His Word in any particular environment then let’s not even bother subjecting ourselves to that event or environment.  Don’t hang with those people, even if they call themselves your friend. Don’t go where they offer free drinks if you know you don’t yet have the willpower or ability to not stay of sober mind. Don’t date people who are only really interested in sexual aspects. In whatever state you are in, don’t let devil get a foothold.

If you’re serious about your relationship with Christ don’t flirt with the devil.

What if you’re already dating the devil (disguised as an angel of light of course)? Well… maybe this analogy will help:

Imagine that you’re out on frozen lake & you notice that it’s cracking but you see a dry dock connected to land & that land has a huge mountain on it. I’m sure you’d be wise enough to get off that thin ice, not wait to see if you’ll fall in. You’d get to the dock. Walk up pier. Climb the mountain. Get as close to shelter & a nice warm fire.

Get as close to the fire as possible.

Draw near to God. He will draw near to you.

Encounter A Mindful Moment

Perhaps your mind is full but all the more reason to be mindful of a few things that really, really matter; like you, others and how Christ’s actions, His grace is big enough for everyone.

Mindful Of The Moment

Clarence Darrow was an American lawyer and defended high-profile clients in many famous trials of the early 20th century.  When asked to share how he was able to remain so hopeful when defending so much tragedy, his response was profound…

Listen Now

…“when we fully understand the brevity of life, its fleeting joys, and unavoidable pains; when we accept the facts that all men and women are approaching the same end: the consciousness of it should make us more kindly and considerate of each other. This feeling should make men and women use their best efforts to help their fellow travelers on the road, to make the path brighter and easier as we journey on. It should bring a closer kinship, a better understanding, and a deeper sympathy for the wayfarers who must live a common life and die a common death.”

The theme of this meditation from Psalm 90 is just that. A reflection on helping other fellow travelers on the road, to make the path brighter and easier as we journey on.  Being mindful of living in the present moment.

Do you worry that your future joys may be fleeting?  Do you feel your past pain was unavoidable? Surrender those thoughts and center on this moment to be kind and considerate to others. How can you make the path brighter and easier as you journey with other fellow travelers on the road? How might God use you to bring a closer kinship, a better understanding, and a deeper sympathy for those you meet at every turn and every moment?

Ponder that and when you are ready, whether at first light or in the long shadows of evening, concede to surrender the past and future.  Be mindful of living in the present moment for it will be then and there you will encounter the peace and wisdom of God.

Let me pray this closing benediction over you to realize how short your life is.  Find wisdom in the truth that your days are numbered and there discover peace. Now may this time with Christ, the mind of the Holy Spirit, and your present encounter with God be what directs you at this moment, Amen.

(A 15 min. audio recording)

This is part of a series I’ve been listening to, along with reading & meditating on God’s Word.

It’s a spiritually healthy thing to be searching to know the creator in a personal way. Once we find Him it is up to us be committed to Him.

THAT is only the beginning.

It is up to us to stay committed and continue to seek His Will, His guidance, His ways.

Reading His Word daily & meditating, focusing on Him is key to letting His Holy Spirit fill us & reign in our lives.

May you find peace in Him & continually let Him be Lord.

Committing to God

“Wait. Stop.  You are NOT going outside wearing that!”

Of the many responsibilities of a parent, often the least recognized is the role of fashion police or being the last line of defense before a young child steps out into a freezing cold winter’s day wearing shorts, t-shirts, no shoes…but with a stocking cap and gloves.  The child’s defense is usually a sarcastic, “What? I’m wearing a hat and gloves as you told me!”

Listen Now

Have you ever had anyone ask you, “you aren’t going to wear that are you?”  It can sound a bit condescending but hopefully, they are looking out for your best interest before you make a fool of yourself in public.

This meditation from Proverbs 16 is a reflection on all of the ways we set goals that seem so right and innocent in our own eyes at the time, but later come to regret something we’ve done.  How the Lord protects us by first weighing and examining us in spite of our own motives. First and foremost seeking after God’s direction rather our own self-interests.

As you rest here in closing, be mindful of present moments you may be ignoring or dismissing the wisdom of God to pursue your own plans.  And be aware too of others you encounter on your path that may be blinded by their own selfish ways unaware of God’s light.

Ponder that and when you are ready, whether at first or last light, watch with great expectation for a moment to surrender your secular plans to the sacred.  From what is done by hand to those done by the divine for it will be then and there you will encounter the of will and guidance of God.

Let me pray this closing benediction over you to remember to commit your activities to the Lord.  Trust in God’s ways for then and only then will your plans be established. Now may the surrendering work of Christ, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and your encounter with the wise ways of God be what brings you most contentment now and always, Amen.

The Treasure Hunt, Search & Encounter: Finding God

Finding God is as easy as simply searching, letting Him read our heart. To be sure we are not led on a wild goose chase it is always good to go to His Word that has endured over all these years.

Finding God

Imagine walking along the beach.  The sun high overhead. Waves washing up and over your feet as you comb the beach with a metal detector.  Back and forth you swing the detector listening for the little beep. Searching. Hoping.

Listen Now

What are you hoping to find?  An unexpected treasure? What will you do with it once you find it?

This meditation from Jeremiah 29 is about the hunt.  Looking, searching, and eventually finding what you most long for.  But not an earthly treasure, but a heavenly reward. Not a lost coin, but finding the eternal presence of God.

As you walk your own path of discovering the ever present presence of God, consider who you might meet along the way on their own journey of divine discovery.  Who might you encounter that is in search of God. How might you be the one who takes their hand and leads them to find God?

Consider that and when you are ready, whether at the wonder of sunset or sunrise, be mindful with great expectation as you walk up and down the beach looking for treasure.  Listening for the beep. Feeling the excitement in your heart as you discover you have found what you have been seeking. As you encounter and the very eternal presence of God.

Let me pray this closing benediction over you that when you feel most isolated that you keep the faith.  That when you feel abandoned you remember to look for God. That when you feel hopeless that you remember to search for God wholeheartedly.  And then you will find him. Now may the discovery of Christ, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and an encounter with your heavenly Father be what sustains you now and always, Amen.

The 1 Dimension of Gay Pride

I made a new friend & when I asked him what he did for a living he told me that he works on spreading love to those on the streets of St. Petersburg Florida.

Mostly he runs a mission out of a laundry mat, washing clothes for free on Sundays for those who can’t afford it.

He told be he gets a lot of questions about his faith, the Bible and Christianity.

Shortly after the huge gay pride parade in St. Pete. He was asked, “What do you think of the gay pride parade?” I think his answer was worth great consideration. He answered,

“A gay pride parade lables you 1 dimensionally. I’d rather get to know people for more than just their sexuality…

You are more than your genitalia.
