“10”

This is a look at using mnemonics as a way to help memorize scripture, specifically regarding The Number 10.

I did a post on mnemonics (Aids to memorization of Bible facts, locations of verses, chapters, teachings, etc.)

The Thompson Chain Bible -reference #4315 helped me a lot with this post.

Part of that study includes. “THE 2:10’s of Jesus”

Lk. 2:10 (Joy bringer)
Eph. 2:10 (Character builder)
Php. 2:10 (adorable name)
Col. 2:10 (Fulfiller of life)
Heb. 2:10 (Captain of our salvation)
Rev. 2:10 (Crown Giver)

Other coincidences, when Chapters were assigned in putting together The Holy Bible we see how remembering the number 7 can be helpful:
7th Chapter of Genesis = waters of death
7th Chapter of John = Water of life (v.37)

I did a seperate study, not just on the coincidences of the number 7 but the significance of it (go to “7”).

Also the Thompson Chain reference Bible takes you through chains linked to the number 7 –(chain #3241 covers The number Seven)

I’ve always been interested in numbers. Another good example is “40” (use Thompson Chain Ref. Bible #2737 ) see my post called “40” for that.

However, this post is on the number “10”.

The verse of the day that led me on this search was:

looking at the 10 commandments & taking a closer at the coincidence of 10 and multiples of 10 in the Bible. This  helps me remember where the 10 commandments are listed (Deuteronomy 10)

Here are some other interesting links to the number 10, chapter and verses located by that number

Some are are not very significant or carry meaning regarding the number necessarily but they are interesting nonetheless. All tie to the number 10 or a multiple of 10.

Others verses actually show specific significance regarding the number.

When looking into it I found a lot on “Numerology in the scriptures”: Like 7, 10 symbolizes completion. For instance, there were Ten Commandments. In the end times, 10 kingdoms will exist. 10 spies were sent out (Num. 13:32). 10 men were needed to form a quorum in the Sanhedrin. (https://wp.me/p2VGKY-12b)

Significance to the number 10 is seen over and over:

The Number 10 – the following info. is from Sir Godfrey Greg’s post Numbers In The Scriptures.

The number 10 is a very significant number in the Bible. In examining the uses of the number 10 in Scripture it seems to represent human failure and God’s provision. For example:

– The 10 spies failed to see Gods power and provision, so they brought back an evil report:

Numbers 13:32 And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.

– The 10 tribes failed to walk with God and to do His will. Therefore, they established a separate kingdom given to idolatry:

  1. Kings 11:31 And he said to Jeroboam, “Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: `Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you
  2. Kings 17:22-23 For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they did not depart from them, until the LORD removed Israel out of His sight, as He had said by all His servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away from their own land to Assyria, as it is to this day.

– The magicians and astrologers were 10 times as weak and insufficient as Daniel:

Daniel 1:20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.

– The 10 lepers were unable to cure themselves, they needed Jesus:

Luke 17:12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. (info. From Sir Godfrey Greg’s post Numbers In The Scriptures.)

Also, for me personally, remebering the number 10,  I am able to find key verses contain that number…

If nothing else, remember that numbers do matter and God even knows the number of hairs on your head. That sound easy coming from a man going bald  but obviously this statement, “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” Matthew 10:30 NIV (note 10th chapter 30th verse) also found in Luke 12:7, that statement is more than literal and represents the all knowing God and his attention to details.
