God’ Will

As I checked out differen Bible reading plans on the “YouVersion” app. I came across one called, “What the Bible Says About God’s Will” 

Day 1 was about “The Blessing of God’s Will.”  I wanted to make special note of the part that clarified something for me…here it is…

“Jeremiah 29:11 absolutely does not teach that there’s a detailed blueprint about your future that God is waiting for you to figure out

Yes, God has a sovereign will.   Yes, God has guidelines for our behavior (the Bible). 

  • But no, God does not have a specific, detailed plan for each individual.

This is good news!

For some of us, it’s a cosmic shift to reject the traditional view of God’s will and embrace the idea that God’s will is about who we are. 

Personally I take that even a little further, meaning – who we are in Him and ultimately who He is as well as who He is to us, from our inner most being to our outer most actions.

After we realign our thinking according to God’s Word, we can expect some clear, distinct benefits—otherwise known as blessings—in our lives. 

Consider with me what will happen if we take a biblical approach to practicing the will of God as opposed to worrying about whether or not we’ve really “found” our personalized version of His will.”

God’s Word says, 

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I just finished day 1 of the @YouVersion Plan What the Bible Says: The Blessing of God’s Will. (Check it out here: http://bible.com/r/2RM)

Make no mistake, God has a plan for each of us but, that plan He unfolds as we live how He calls us to live. 

His Word guides us each day. As we get into His Word may we let His Word get into us.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 

James 1:22 ESV

What God Does For Us

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?

 If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? 

And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen?

 Who would dare even to point a finger? 

The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. 

Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! 

Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. 

None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. 

I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. Romans 8:31‭-‬39 MSG

God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating. Colossians 1:13‭-‬14 MSG

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over again, expecting a different result.

As humans we find ourselves saying, “I can’t seem to change or start doing this or that or stop doing this or that!” That is true but God can and as we mature in our relationship with Him He will help us grow and develop into the character that He wants with attributes that reflect Him and are pleasing to Him.

Let go & let God

The Future Starts Now

What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! 

Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! 

God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.

 The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.

As believers, Kingdom living starts now & will be perfected on that final day.

I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. 

Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. 

When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. 


You never saw him, yet you love him.

 You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. 

Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation. 

The prophets who told us this was coming asked a lot of questions about this gift of life God was preparing. 

The Messiah’s Spirit let them in on some of it—that the Messiah would experience suffering, followed by glory. 

They clamored to know who and when. All they were told was that they were serving you, you who by orders from heaven have now heard for yourselves—through the Holy Spirit—the Message of those prophecies fulfilled. 

Do you realize how fortunate you are? 

Angels would have given anything to be in on this!

 So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. 

Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing.

 You didn’t know any better then; you do now.

 As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness

God said, “I am holy; you be holy.” 

You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way. 

But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living. 

Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God

It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. 

He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know. 

He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. 

Even though it has only lately—at the end of the ages—become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you.

 It’s because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God. 

Now that you’ve cleaned up your lives by following the truth, love one another as if your lives depended on it. 

Your new life is not like your old life. Your old birth came from mortal sperm; your new birth comes from God’s living Word. 

Just think: a life conceived by God himself!

 That’s why the prophet said, The old life is a grass life, its beauty as short-lived as wildflowers; Grass dries up, flowers droop, God’s Word goes on and on forever. 

This is the Word that conceived the new life in you.

What The Heavenly Father Hates

Here are six things God hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: 

  1. eyes that are arrogant, 
  2. a tongue that lies, 
  3. hands that murder the innocent,
  4.  a heart that hatches evil plots, 
  5. feet that race down a wicked track, 
  6. a mouth that lies under oath, 
  7. a troublemaker in the family.

There is no doubt that The Lord Loves us & that He wants everyone to come to His salvation (who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4 NIV); however, make no mistake He hates disobedience to Him because disobedience seperates us from Him. Going against His will & His ways leads us away from salvation. 

Jesus said,

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.  

If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.  

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 

 You are my friends if you do what I command.  

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. 

Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.  

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.  

This is my command: Love each other.

I find comfort in the fact that God is love, pure love, and that He hates evil and will eventually distroy all evil.

To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.

The Heavenly Father’s Love

Think about Our Heavenly Father’s love for us.

As we move through life and take in God’s word for guidance & instruction we are reminded…with the words of Jesus

“You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and Money both. 

“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. 

There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. 

Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God.

 And you count far more to him than birds. “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? 

All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference?

 Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? 

The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. 

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? 

What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting , so you can respond to God’s giving. 

People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. 

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. 

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. 

God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

Don’t love the world’s ways. 

Don’t love the world’s goods. 

Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.

Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?

Alexx’s Suicide Verse

Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy.

This is ther verse my son had circled in his Bible.

I’ve looked at different translations of it and over and over again I just see that it confirms how each of us have no way of knowing what is really going on in someone elses heart, the sadness or the joy. 

 Jeremiah 17:9 NLT says “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

I can’t really explain why my son committed suicide but I do know that his mind was seperated from his hearts. His mental illness caused him to follow through with actions that bore such final results. This was not a true refection of what was in his heart & soul any more than other illnesses that claim someone’s life.

Now I am just left with morning his loss, fighting my own mental health battles and trying to help others who suffer as well.

No matter how much confusion blows through our minds may we remember that it can & will get better…just hold on.


Did Tom Bailey Die?

Sad news. Depression after the holidays and uncontrollable circumstances bring on a real struggle.

A part of me did die. As some are just now finding out my son Alexx Bailey died July 2016 due to suicide.

I’m no stranger to that civil war of the mind that he suffered with.

I am a survivor of a suicide attempt of my own. Over the past few years I’ve lost a lot (my job, use of my legs to some degree, my son) but I am very much alive.

A few years back there was a rumor that I died. It was strange but it made sense why people thought that. I was working for The Salvation Army in Tarpon Springs as the Social service director. I left that job to become a CNA (Certified Nurses Assistant) and the man who took my place at The Salvation Army (service unit) died in a car accident not long after he started. People in the area got news that “The Salvation Army guy” in Tarpon died and assumed it was me. I was in a grocery store in Clearwater, Fl and some people came up to me and said, “I heard you died!” I assured them I am very much alive and all is well.

Perhaps you saw the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, once again this past holiday season…that was George Bailey but often people have called me George and a few older people sing to me, “Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey” and even fewer stretch things by sining, “Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley.”  George Bailey, in that holiday movie, found out what life would have been like if he had never come along, was never even born. The film helps all of us consider how the little things we do can make a hugh impact on people. Sometimes just being around is a real comfort to others.

Since my son died I realize that he accomplished so much but if he was still alive he would have accomplished even more, even if he didn’t “do” anything. Sometimes our presence alone is all the world needs.

Well, in short…I am still alive and glad to be around. It is good to be alive and when the chemicals in my brain are off or circumstances bad I look to my Creator for help. He is my Rock. I also accept help & encouragement from metal health professionals and good Christian friends & family.

Coming Into Focus 2nd Co. 5 (New Creation)

The Main Thing isn’t just the great big gig up in the sky.”

But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing

Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that’s what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions. 

Sooner or later we’ll all have to face God, regardless of our conditions. 

We will appear before Christ and take what’s coming to us as a result of our actions, either good or bad.

I can only develop the mind set & attitude Jesus had by accepting Him (true belief & trust), and growing from that point on, possesed, filled and continually feeded my new Spiritual life.

2 Co. 5 has been my focus this morning…

What really matters isn’t our past, this present darkness or even the future in heaven. What matters is right now in the moment with Christ & Him with us, pleasing Him is the main thing.

As I look at 2 Co. 5 i focus on my relationship with Christ and listen to what He is telling me through His Word…

2 Co. 5 –For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—

and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again.

 Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration

Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! 

We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies!

 The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. 

He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.

 That’s why we live with such good cheer. You won’t see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! 

Cramped conditions here don’t get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. 

It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. 

(That is “faith” see Hebrew 11)

Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? 

(Personal note: ruts & rocks are not main thing & not my focus, getting to heaven not my focus…pleasing God now in my new…renewed day by day 2 co. 4:16… active, on going relationship with Christ is my focus)

When the time comes, we’ll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming. 

But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing. 

Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, 

and that’s what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions. 

Sooner or later we’ll all have to face God, regardless of our conditions. 

We will appear before Christ and take what’s coming to us as a result of our actions, either good or bad. 

That keeps us vigilant, you can be sure. 

It’s no light thing to know that we’ll all one day stand in that place of Judgment. 

(Believer & unbeliever…ALL, EVERYONE…INDIVIDUALLY)

That’s why we work urgently with everyone we meet to get them ready to face God. God alone knows how well we do this, but I hope you realize how much and deeply we care

We’re not saying this to make ourselves look good to you. We just thought it would make you feel good, proud even, that we’re on your side and not just nice to your face as so many people are. 

If I acted crazy, I did it for God; if I acted overly serious, I did it for you. Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes.

 His love has the first and last word in everything we do. 

Our firm decision is to work from this focused center

One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own. 

Because of this decision we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. 

We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! 

Look at it!

 All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. 

God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. 

God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. 

We’re Christ’s representatives.

 God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. 

We’re speaking for Christ himself now:

 Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you. 

How? you ask.

 In Christ. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.
