Truly God & Truly Man

Notes: An undefeatable army still gets attacked. An unsinkable ship can still hit objects in the ocean that do damage.

If i gave you a coat hanger you could bend it. If I gave you an iron bar you couldn’t bend it. If I wrapped the coat hanger around the iron bar you coundn’t bend the two joined together.

Christ was truly man but He is truly God as well. People can get caught up in philosophy. Theological debates can be a challenge but I don’t think we should feel like questions, unanswered questions or our lack of answeres shoukd shake our faith.

Theological debates, these issues don’t pose problems. They may pose a little thinking, but not a problem.

As my dad recovers from neck surgery he was told to wear a bone stimulator (this harness that goes over your shoulders, rests on your chest and some how silently sends impulses into his bones to help fuse the titanium nuts, bolts & rods WITH HIS BONES!!! The medical staff explained how it works but dad said, “Hey, ya don’t have to know how it works for it to work. I can’t see it but I believe it.” He puts that harness on just like a warrior straps on a breast plate of armour.

Jesus was truly man…Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

One must remember that Jesus has two natures: a human nature and a divine nature. His harness was internal. The two natures were fused as one. The healing we hope & pray & strive for He already had.

As James wrote, “God cannot be tempted with evil” (James 1:13) and in another sense His human nature could be and was (Luke 4:1-2). Since Jesus was God in the flesh, He couldn’t have sinned, but since Jesus was in the flesh, He could be tempted.

That’s worth chewing on.

He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. 1 Peter 2:22 NLT

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness,  where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. Luke 4:1‭-‬2 NLT (This may lead us to a deeper look at how the devil tempted Jesus & what he tempted him with, as well as Jesus’ response)

And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. James 1:13 NLT

Extra note: Now that Christ as assended into heaven & did what He promised, sent His Holy Spirit, we can open up & allow this comforter & helper inside. With Christ’s Spirit in you you are still human but He will help you through it all.  Think again about my dad and his rehabilitation after neck surgery…He has had to learn how to live with “a new normal.” Just like when we are born again. Our daily devotion to God is not just a time where we sit down for 5 minutes (or more) and read from a small book or when we pray before we eat or say our prayers before we go to sleep. All those things are important & feed our souls but our daily devotion lays in our faith & trust that God is with us (Emanuel), remaining in a marriage relationship with Him, putting His Holy Spirit on like that bone fusing harness. We need to put on the armour of God. The more joined we are with Him the more Spiritual healing takes place.
