Seasons of Pain

When something isn’t working as well or as fast as we would like we are quick to try and fix things or throw it away and get a new one.

With life, when things don’t seem to be working right or aren’t moving fast enough for us we sometimes do the same thing, we rush into something or demand changes right away.

People are uncomfortable with pain or things that bring pain. So much so, that we will even deny it, pretend it’s not as bad as we think. Coping mechanisms are all part of life too, however not facing reality, accepting it or denying it is not really a solution.

I am a pessimist for sure. I try to put a positive spin on everything but I’m learning more and more that times of being broken, down or even just feeling trouble are all part of life too.

Sure, we’d rather gloss over difficult times rather than sit through them, but, manytimes those seasons have a purpose. We experience droughts, storms, hurt, confusion in order to mold us, to teach us.

We all share similarities but we all go through individual tragedies & even disasters. Going through those things can be as beautiful as the seasons that we count as peaceful, comfortable and carefree. Notice I say “going through” those things.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that we need to walk around somber or burdened all the time but oversimplifying things or trying to find a quick fix or solution isn’t the answerer either. I’m just saying

Life is full of different seasons & those seasons are important and have purpose

We personally can’t avoid those seasons, nor should we try to glide over the seasons others are going through, rather, we should be willing to be with them during those times, encouraging them but not minimizing their pain and try to fix them.

These seasons, they are not a sign of being broken, they are a sign that things are changing and change is not bad, it is necessary. When we don’t know ‘the why’ we tend to feel out of control and even incapable, that’s ok, a reminder that we are human.

We’d like to think that if we just Pray more, read the Bible more, that we or others won’t hurt or struggle so much. That is just not true.

Christ himself had to experience pain, suffering & separation from His Father and was betrayed by His closest friends.

When Jesus died Peter, the rock, said,”I’m going back to fishing.” That was before he realized Christ rose from the dead. All Jesus Christ’s closest followers hid. They stuck together in one place, locked the doors and took cover, retreated, fearing for their lives.

During those times Jesus didn’t condemn or deny them, no, He offered sympathy. He even cried and pleaded for God The Father to forgive the angry, misunderstanding, hateful crowd gathered around Him participating in killing Him.

He knew and understood necessary pain. He knows, in this world, we will face trials and even death.

*The Psalms remind us that he’s not waiting for us to get it together, or doling out consequences as a result. His great and steadfast love helps remind us that we are not our hurt, our past, or our sins. We are beloved sons and daughters.

he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:10‭-‬14 NIV

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
Hebrews 4:14‭-‬15 NIV

*Today, process through the emotions you’re feeling and focus on the fact that Jesus felt many of the same things, and himself was tempted to give up. As you dwell on that thought, ask God what he feels about what you’re feeling.

Consider this:

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Hebrews 12:3 NIV

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18 NIV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
James 1:2‭-‬5 NIV

In out season of pain God is still sovereign, in control of everything.

“Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
Psalm 50:22 NIV

We fall apart, crumble beyond repair when we don’t have a solid rock foundation.

If you find yourself reading this while in a dark, cold season of pain, and believe you have nothing to live for, you’re in complete despair, know that, not all is lost. You’re just in one of those seasons & soon spring will come, like a flower in the spring, you will bloom again.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:17‭-‬21 NIV

As a little part of us dies God gives birth to new things for us, making room for the next season in our life. Eventually we will be with Him in glory, where there is no more pain, tears & trials.

Don’t believe the misconception that heaven is just floating around in the clouds. God has given His word describing it for what it is truly like. Go to 👉Scripture Picture of Heaven👈 for the truth.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:22‭-‬32 NIV
