After a tragic car accident my parents experienced as their brakes failed while in the Carolina Mountains some how they miraculously survived.
My mother ended up with bad bruises and my dad received a hairline fracture of his C2.
Along the long road to recovery my mom sent this photo with a caption…
“The invalid and his protector”
I’ve always hated that term, “invalid”. I felt like it was saying the person was NO LONGER VALID.
Those words are spelled the same (Invalid & invalid) and in just reading them one could make a grave mistake.
I told her to remind dad that he may be invalid but he is not Invalid.
Still don’t get it?
To clarify –
See the two very different words meaning two very different things:
in·va·lid noun 1. a person made weak or disabled by illness or injury. “an invalid husband” synonyms: ill person, sick person, valetudinarian; More verb 1. remove (someone) from active service in the armed forces because of injury or illness. “he was badly wounded and invalided out of the infantry”
a special sense of invalid, with a change of pronunciation. in·val·id – inˈvaləd
An adjective: invalid not valid, in particular. (especially of an official document or procedure) not legally recognized and therefore void because contravening a regulation or law.
“the vote was declared invalid due to a technicality”
synonyms: (legally) void, null and void, unenforceable, not binding, illegitimate, inapplicable “the law was invalid” antonyms: binding (especially of an argument, statement, or theory) not true because based on erroneous information or unsound reasoning. “a comparison is invalid if we are not comparing like with like” synonyms: false, untrue, inaccurate, faulty, fallacious, spurious, unconvincing, unsound, weak, wrong, wide of the mark, off target; More untenable, baseless, ill-founded, groundless; informalfull of holes “the theory is invalid” antonyms: true (of computer instructions, data, etc.) not conforming to the correct format or specifications.
Regardless of our weaknesses, limitations & shortcomings we are valid to God & to each other.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV http://bible.com/111/2co.5.17.NIV
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NLT http://bible.com/116/jhn.15.5.NLT
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV http://bible.com/111/2co.4.16.NIV
