God will fight, you just stand & be still, calm & don’t complain
-Moses and all God’s children were between the Red Sea & Pharaoh’s Army.
The people were freaking out, moaning & groaning!
They had forgotten all God’s miracles & what He did so far. They said, “We would have been better off as slaves in Egypt!”
But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14 NLT
Another version says, The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Exodus 14:14 KJV
The Message version even translates Ex. 14:14 as Moses saying, “God will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouths shut!” Exodus 14:14 MSG
That is Moses talking to his people.
In another post I mentioned, had it been me in Moses’ shoes (or sandals) I would have said, *”Quit your bitchin’ people! GOD’S GOT THIS!!!”
EX.14:14 is Moses talking to the people verse 15 is God talking to Moses,
God said to Moses: “Why cry out to me? Speak to the Israelites. Order them to get moving. Hold your staff high and stretch your hand out over the sea: Split the sea! The Israelites will walk through the sea on dry ground. “Meanwhile I’ll make sure
- the Egyptians keep up their stubborn chase—
- I’ll use Pharaoh and his entire army, his chariots and horsemen, to put my Glory on display so that
- the Egyptians will realize that I am God .”
Exodus 14:15-18 MSG
We always hear,
Be still & know that I am God
But that, “Before Still”, Moses is saying to the Israelites is a plead to,
Then, while they were at peace (or getting there) God told them to,
I’m not sure our life can be compared to the suffering the people of Israel had to endure but life is hard at times and we feel trapped between a sea of problems in front of us & the army of the enemy coming up our rears!
In those times I find it best to look to God, the creator of everything and remember that nothing is too big for Him to handle.
We can not battle life’s various trials. We can not survive things like the blow that a death of a loved one delivers let alone win a war against death itself; however, God can.
He has before and He will again.
We just have to stop complaining, find peace, be still and know (trust with all of our heart) that He is Sovereign. HE is able. He is God.
Don’t take my word on it. Take God at His Word. Here is the portion I’ve been blogging about,
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord . They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.
The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
The Lord will fight for you;
you need only to be still.”
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” Exodus 14:10-18 NIV
- BE still, at peace, not complaining, not indifferent toward God
- Move forward
- WILL fight & win
- Bring Glory to His name
Note- even the enemy came to see God’s glory & power. He used them and gained glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his (Pharaoh’s) chariots and his horsemen. Even the Egyptians came to know that God is the Lord when He gained glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.
God hardened their hearts. God caused them to give chase & attempt to kill.
He will use even the worse things to show how great He is and remind us He is ultimatly in control.
So, as you face a sea of difficulty ahead of you, in your future, and are caught between that and the things chasing you, threats that got you into this spot to begin with you have one of two choices
- Try to fight on your own by complaining & fighting it your way
- Stop, be still. Find peace with God and let Him fight His way.
The choice seems obvious but many times it is hard to realize we are not in control & that the battle must take place in order for there to be a victory.
Accept peace in the fact that you can not escape, you can not fight, God will do it all & get you through it all and He will be glorified for having done it, not we ourselves.
