Season of Prayer

While struggling with partial paralysis in my legs and then my son’s death I was writing  2 books. One was called,  “Season of Jail”, the next was, “Season of Prison”. Both of them were fictional works that ran metaphorical comparisons.

The main thought came from being shut-in and yet making the most of every opportunity.

When my son died that was by far the most difficult and crippling thing that could have ever happen. Months later now and I am still trying to process it.

I’ve been saying, “If  I lose my legs altogether (not able to use them) but still have my mental health and my spiritual health then I’ll be okay.” Now I am realizing even more how important my spiritual health is as my mental health is challenged.

We all go through different seasons. Unlike Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall the seasons we go through many times have no indication of when they are coming and when they may end.

The Scriptures I read this morning reminded me to pray on all occasions,  in every season and in every way, at all times.

Below is a comparison look at a few translations:

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Ephesians 6:18 NLT

With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.

Do all this in prayer, asking for God’s help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God’s people.

Ephesians 6:18 GNB

I’d like to end this post with a larger context from Ephesians 6 as worded in “The Message” translation:

Be prepared.

You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own.

Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet.

  •  Truth,
  • righteousness,
  • peace,
  •  faith, and
  • salvation are more than words.

Learn how to apply them.

You’ll need them throughout your life.

God’s Word is an indispensable weapon.

In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare.

Pray hard and long.

Pray for your brothers and sisters.

Keep your eyes open.

Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one

  • falls behind or
  • drops out.

Ephesians 6:13‭-‬18 MSG

God’s Word is an indispensable weapon.

In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare.

Song: “More Power To Ya” By: “Petra”

And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

Ephesians 6:10‭-‬12 MSG
