When To Pray For What and WHY pray at all?

I did a post that was part of a prayer journal Bible Study on Prayer. Within that post I included these questions with Scripture that give answers:

What should we pray about?
Everything thing: Phil. 4:6-8

Spirit helping us: Rom. 8:26-27; Matt. 6:7-13; Ecc. 5:2

James 5:13-18; 1st Thess. 5:17; Eph. 6:18; Mk.1:35; Mk. 6:46

For Who?
Matt. 5:44; James 5:13-16

Matt. 6:5-6

Why? Here are several reasons:

  • He Deserves our prayers Ps. 30:10-12, Rev. 4:18; 5:8
  • He Demands prayers (300 times in scripture) examples Psalm 150; Heb. 13:15
  • He Dwells in prayers Ps. 22:3-5,22-26
  • He Delights in prayers Ps. 103 (Make God feel at home in our lives)
  • He Delivers through prayers Acts. 16:25

As I explored that further I thought about how many times I personally feel very insecure when it comes to prayer.

If God is Sovereign and completely in control why do we need to ask Him for anything?

The answer for me is the same when considering “Why communication is so important in every relationship.”

In the same way the Spirit also comes to help us, weak as we are. For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit himself pleads with God for us in groans that words cannot express. And God, who sees into our hearts, knows what the thought of the Spirit is; because the Spirit pleads with God on behalf of his people and in accordance with His will. Romans 8:26‭-‬27 GNB (http://bible.com/296/rom.8.26-27.GNB)

Maybe it’s time to realize God can read our thoughts and our thoughts can stream and run so much faster than we can form words.

We need not try to word our prayers, even when praying in public. Jesus gives direction about public prayer to telling us to not use big words & flowery speech in order to be recognized in front of others but to go into a closet  (someplace private, unseen -Matt. 6).

So, when considering that we really don’t know how & are limited by our human restrictions speaking to The Almighty Creator the conflict and question remains, “What & how do I do it?”

For me it helps to form a schemimatic or plan this gives me meaning & purpose.

On time,  while laying flat on my back in a psyc ward I realized God had to just read my every thought, concern & worry. He took my anxiety & care & replaced it with comfort & peace. As my mind ‘raced’ He snatched everything up. Then, there was nothing but praise left.

Further more, think about this:

If we were to watch or read an old news feed about the war in Vietnam & pray for those over there without knowing that’s all been over for years it would appear to be a foolish or simply an ignorant prayer, almost in vein.
Now, knowing that war is a thing of the past we can still pray for vets or results/consequences or even blessings & victories since that but no longer need to pray for the troops over there.

Here is another example:

An out dated Facebook  feed or  old letter from a friend regarding somethings someone’s gone through (a past events and request) that has already come and gone. We may be praying for restoration or health without hearing that they’ve already been restored or may have even already died, without us knowing it.

My point is, there is so much, SO, SO MUCH, we just don’t know but God does.

So, just as a child talks to their daddy, we cry out, Daddy, Daddy, meet our needs and thank you in advance because You know best!”

We must learn to not even pray with words but to pray in the SPIRIT.

Let His Spirit help your spirit.

Join with Him so that you become one with Him.

The Holy  Spirit moves faster and more efficient than our words or thoughts could ever travel.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:14‭-‬16 NIV (http://bible.com/111/rom.8.14-16.NIV)
In Jesus name & for Christ sake, Beetle

  1. Jesus was matter-of-fact: “Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you.

This mountain, for instance: Just say, ‘Go jump in the lake’—no shuffling or shilly-shallying—and it’s as good as done.

That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything.

And when you assume the posture of prayer, remember that it’s not all asking .

If you have anything against someone, forgive —only then will your heavenly Father be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins.”
    Mark 11:22‭-‬25 MSG
