No Matter What I Say, Believe or Do… I’m bankrupt without love.

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do,

 I’m bankrupt without love.

  • Love never gives up.
  • Love cares more for others than for self.
  • Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
  • Love doesn’t strut,
  • Doesn’t have a swelled head,
  • Doesn’t force itself on others,
  • Isn’t always “me first,”
  • Doesn’t fly off the handle,
  • Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
  • Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
  • Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
  • Puts up with anything,
  • Trusts God always,
  • Always looks for the best,
  • Never looks back, But
  • keeps going to the end.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things

  •  true,
  • noble,
  • reputable,
  • authentic,
  • compelling,
  • gracious—
  • the best, not the worst;
  • the beautiful, not the ugly;
  • things to praise, not things to curse.

Paul told the Philippines-

Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized.

Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

The Great No Escape -Captives of Christ (Psalm 139:5-14)

The fear of being trapped or not able to escape can be overwhelming.  I’m not just referring to solitary confinement, handcuffs or being stuck in a burning building. There are plenty of situations that we feel trapped in or “locked into”.

I’d like to say nothing is permanent but that’s just not true,  however,  everything we see, touch and taste now passes away; it  fades, fails and falls. That which we don’t see, can’t touch and can’t be literally tasted is the only truly & eternally permanent.

I believe everything  that is physically is temporary. Everything that is spiritual is perminate.
My gut tells me a few things from time to time and one of those things is that there is something more, other than my inside organs, other than my beating heart & intestines . . .

I have a soul.

It is beyond my brain. It is more than a feelin. It is a conscious awareness that speaks to me and allows me to see things from a perspective other than what my two eyes offer.

I believe in an uncreated God who created everything. A God who is at the beginning and the end of everything.
No man can add to Him or subtract from Him, although they may try.

He exist, not because we believe, because we worship or because we praise Him. HE EXIST TO BE BELIEVED IN, WORSHIPPED AND PRAISED.

The weight, stress, anxiety of the world will not last forever. Escape is possible. The way out is through being a

“Captive of Christ.”

When we are caught up by Him, for Him, and not captivated with our own problems, life and vices of this world we find that we truly are not alone and He is able to fight for us as He surrounds us with all His capabilities & sovereignty.

Much like the wind & air around me, I can’t see Him but I know He is here.

You can see the effects of the wind but you can’t see the wind. There’s a mystery to it. -Billy Graham

As I read Psalm 139 I am reminded of how He is with us, not matter where we are.

Psalms 139:5‭-‬14

You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

If I go up to

  •  heaven, you are there; if I go down to
  • the grave, you are there. If I ride
  •  the wings of the morning, if I dwell by
  •  the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but

  • even in darkness I cannot hide from you.

To you the night shines as bright as day.

Darkness and light are the same to you.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!

Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Psalms 139:5‭-‬14 NIV

http://bible.com/116/psa.139.5-14.NLT

There is so much I don’t know can can’t fully understand but one thing I do know, and this one thing is all I need is God The Father sent His Son as a sacrifice  (to die in my place). After raising from the dead He send His Holy Spirit to continually be by my side and usher me into heaven.

It is a great mystery. There is a lot of controversy & theology & philosophy offered by man but rather than seek & pay for human authority, human approval, human explanations I will experience The supernatural authority, approval & unexplained mystery God gives for free.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Again,

Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose].

Go Where The Heat Is

Move into the light.

Will there be someone or some THING else there?

Is there only a little room?

Will it be tight?

Will it find a friend?

None matter, we belong IN THE LIGHT, more Specific, IN THE WARMTH. WE ARE MADE TO TAKE THE HEAT.

As a matter of fact we are not only to be in the light we are to be the light.

Here is what Jesus says,

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.

(Take the heat)

Be happy about it!

Be very glad!

(Stay warm hearted)

For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way. “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.

No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket.

Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Depression – Darkness Dragged Into The Spotlight

Depression – Darkness Dragged Into The Spotlight

Here are just a few well known people who are in the spotlight often talking about their personal experiences with depression.
They may not have all the answers, or may suggest things that only offer some type of resolution or temporary solution, but nonetheless, they are admitting to it and willing to talking about it:
(Video inserts)

 (end of video inserts)

Whether you agree with them or not, like their acting or not, agree with them or not, these are fellow human beings (yes, celebrities are people, too).
If you struggle with depression, more than just being sad because things are rough, and you find yourself paralyzed in this natural chemical imbalance of pain, go see a doctor. Don’t hesitate to get help anymore than you would hesitate if you were in an accident, broke your arm or had the flu.

It is nothing new.

Mental health issues as well as help has been around for years.

It may be new to you but it is clinical and can be managed.
The doctor you see may not be of much help but you can always go see another one. Finding a good doctor can sometimes be a challenge, especially depending on what your insurance covers. Many health insurance companies do cover it and many regular doctors will assist you. You can always start with your family doctor and tell them what your feeling and what your going through emotionally & mentally and they may even give you a medication that is used to treat your mind. They may also help refer you to a doctor that specializes in that area.

If things are really bad and you are in a crisis situation you can go to an emergency room and they will assist you do.

A few helpful notes:

  • A “Psychologist” does not prescribe medication (they are more like a counselor to talk to). They can treat you with words and maybe even help you find triggers that set off your depression (or other mental health issues) They may even give you some mental exercises to help you work through things but a Psychologist does not prescribe medication. They may run test  and give diagnostic results so you know where to start in learning how to live with what ever issues you have.
  • A “Therapist” also is just a counselor to talk to. They should be ‘licensed,” but they are available to just listen, offer encouragement, and may suggest a few things that help. They are very helpful because “Doctors” who are in the psychiatric field are not there to fully listen or sit with you for 45 minutes of their time. A Therapist will block out 45 minutes or more to sit and really listen. Sometimes when people meet with a therapist and talk, they end up working out their own issues without the therapist even saying a word.
  • A “Psychiatrist” deals with your psychological chemical imbalance and will usually treat you with medication. Some medications take approximately up to 2 weeks until the patient notices a difference (sometime more, sometimes less).
  • Medication helps, but there is no magic pill that cures all. Some medication may be very helpful to one individual but not right for another. Medication should always be taken as directed and never stopped suddenly (it will make you very sick). Self medicating with alcohol, drugs, sex, or other bingeing is never a solution (it makes it worse).

I am not a professional. I am not licensed. I am just a patient who was diagnosed back in 1997 and I’m still learning as I go.
Here is a clinical look at depression, I hope this explains things in a way that is helpful and comprehensive.
Depression and its treatment (Video insert):

Around one in every 10 people will suffer from depression.

Brain regions that control mood are often disrupted in depression.

So, what about you?
Are you feeling trapped?

Are you uninteresting in things around you or easily agitated?

Do things seem to, “just not make sense?”

Is it hard or difficult to interact with others (coworkers, friends, even family)?

Do you feel like you want the whole world around you just to stop?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, or other questions you came up with, regarding how you’ve been feeling or acting, what will it hurt to talk to someone?
You are not alone.
Here a few more helpful spotlights (please pardon the Ads):

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

We have Plans, God has Purpose

Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand. [Job 23:13; Ps. 33:10, 11; Isa. 14:26, 27; 46:10; Acts 5:39; Heb. 6:17.]
Proverbs 19:21 AMPC

http://bible.com/8/pro.19.21.AMPC

Let’s look back at what Job said about God, even while going through such troubled times:

“But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? He does whatever he pleases.  He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans he still has in store.  That is why I am terrified before him; when I think of all this, I fear him.  God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me.  Yet I am not silenced by the darkness, by the thick darkness that covers my face. Job 23:13‭-‬17 NIV

Job understood & acknowledged that God had  planned all along. HE ALWAYS DOES.

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. Psalms 33:10‭-‬11 ESV

The Lord of hosts has sworn saying, “Surely, just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have planned so it will stand…

For the Lord of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?” Isaiah 14:24‭, ‬26‭-‬27 NASB

The Lord has done show and tell for us through the ages. In Isaiah 46:9‭-‬11  we read,

“Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it. Isaiah 46:9‭-‬11 NASB

God’s purpose far out weighs & out last any plan men make.

When the Apostles met with opposition the people persecuting them were given advice:

“So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!” Acts of the Apostles 5:38‭-‬39 NLT
God purpose comes with a promise & a guarantee. He doesn’t just make plans or have a plan He know exactly how things are going to work out. Each thing that takes place has purpose to accomplish His will.  He desires that everyone be saved but He gives us the choice, believe or not. Once we believe we can have full confidence in Him that He will up hold His end we just need to fall in love deeper & deeper with Him on our end of this relationship.

Our love for Him is what calls us to be a faithful follower. As humans we break promises, vows, pledges: however, when we allow His purpose to be our only plan we’ll find true meaning.

Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind.

So God has given both his promise and his oath.

These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.

Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Hebrews 6:16‭-‬19 NLT
God has more than just a plan for us, He has purpose.

I believe Him and depend on Him.

In Christ, Beetle

Decision With Out Judgment

The Ten-Day Word Fast (http://bible.com/r/pp) is one of the reading plans the ‘You version’ app offers. It has been really helpful in helping me consider how to ‘tongue control’.

When it comes right down to it I cannot tame my tongue so I keep it in it’s cage & shut my trap so it can’t get out.

Sometimes it is better for people to think your a fool than to open your mouth and remove all douby.

To not say anything, keep my options to myself never hurt anyone but expressing my opinions at the expense of others or to elevate myself above them is just simply another sin that I’ve committed too many times.

So what do I try to do?

Make decisions on how to live this life by observing not judging and emulate,  or imitate Christ without mutilating others.

If I keep myself occupied, with my eyes fixed on Jesus, I’ll be so preoccupied by Him that I will find no interest in what others may or may not be doing or not doing.

I’ll take my expectations off others and even off myself and put all my expectations on Him who never let’s anyone down.

I no longer have to make judgment calls but rather make good decisions on who I let mentor, encourage and be influential on me.

When it comes right down to it only Christ’s characteristics and only His judgment matters.

Words from others can do so much damage  (only if we let them). But we must remember it is a two wsy street and our words can hurt others too.

EXTRA –going a little deeper

While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.

So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.  ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’

“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’

“He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.

“The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’    “ ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’

“The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’    “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’

“Then another servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth.  I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.’    “His master replied, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?  Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?’

“Then he said to those standing by, ‘Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’    “ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’

“He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.  But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’ ”

Luke 19:11‭-‬27 NIV

http://bible.com/111/luk.19.11-27.NIV

Jesus told this story about an earthy king and judge. The only way to understand how God judges we have to build our relationship with Him and petition Him. Be vested in Him and invest ourselves in being who He wants us to be, living how He wants us to live.

The Master And The Musician by Phil Keaggy

Phil Keaggy, I could say so much about him.

He is definitely one of the best guitarists you’ll ever hear. He has great vocals also but this post focuses just on his instrumental talent.

I’ve seen him live a few times and enjoyed him showing up a few times unexpectedly to other shows.

From the first time I heard him on I was captivated by his skills.

His musicianship and strong faith in Christ has been such a blessing through the the years…
