Is Anything Permanent?

Above,  before color.

Below completed.

When they do an autopsy they cut right into the center of the chest. This reality of this was especially cruesom to me when I heard one was being done on my son.

He had just got the above tattoo as a declaration of his faith in Christ, come hell or high water, he was trusting God to have the final say in his life and death.

Alexx and I both shared with each other, although tattoos are permanently in our skin, even our skin is not permanent.

My son was literally by my side just before I went into surgery and right there with me, my wife and dad when I came out.

We spoke to each other as if it could be our last but but little did we know that in less than 3 months he’d die and be gone forever.

The only hope I have is that I will see him again in our eternal home.

Hounded By A Feeling

The Artists,  “Dogs of peace” have given some lyrics i hold onto in their song, “Thrown Away.”…

“Can’t sleep without the light on. Something waiting in the dark. Alone with the thought of a childhood lost…”

…”Hounded by a feeling,  that for me all hope/peace is gone…
Verse 2 of the song is a self inventory of acknowledging past mistakes and wishing things were done different.  Then they sing of the solution as the song comes to a a resolution and conclusion…

…”Hounded by a feeling,  that for me all hope/peace is gone…

Thrown away the records kept. They are swept from memory,           when I gave my only son to set you free.”

It has been just over one month since my child, Alexx (22 years old), died. Nights are especially hard, haunting is maybe a better word but i remember his hope was in Christ. So also

My hope is in Christ.

He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:10‭-‬12 ESV

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Colossians 2:13‭-‬15 ESV

So i read these verse to remind me who my judge is & how he handels our sin…

Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh. Colossians 2:16‭-‬23 ESV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 ESV

I will stand and continue on in this life, under Christ.

Col. 3 & me (1st 5 verses)

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Colossians 3:1‭-‬5 ESV

Seek, set, raised, died, hidden,  appear.

Death to earthly selfie.

UPDATE -Mental health on trial

A while back i was challenged with loosing the ability to walk. I stayed strong mentally & spiritually during that time.

Now, since my son died, i am struggling with my mental health. Physically i am doing much better,  still some issues but nothing like before.  Spiritually i am staying strong but just as when your child is born it has an amazing effect on you, when one of them dies it carries and unavoidable strain.

I finished a story called “Season of Jail”

Although i’ve never been to jail for a stay i’ve done a lot of jail and prison visitation in my past and i’ve been through seasons that have caused some of the same restrictions.  The story reflects how i’ve worked through or I am still working through life.  When i got news of my son’s death i was in the middle of writing it so i incorporated those feelings into the story. Although the story is fictional i expressed myself through the characters.

I’m finding it hard to express myself right now and feel so helplessly distant right now but i hope others will enjoy some of my writing and get something from it.

To read some of the stories I’ve written go to: 👉 “Stories, Poem and Art” page. That gives an index to other stories I published, including  👉“SEASON OF JAIL”👈Click here to go there directly.

Thank you friends.

“I may not be polished but i can still shine”

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.

My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?

In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:1‭-‬16 NIV

Enough said.

In Christ,  Beetle

This all blends so well with the story i wrote recently.  To read it go to: “Season of Jail”                           I am currently working on a sequel to it called “Season of Prison” but it is still in rough draft.

Why I Share

Why do I blog & share my faith?

  • Certainly not to try and convert others.
  • Not to annoy them in any way.
  • Not to try and win some religious argument.

I share  for the same reason anyone shares, because they  had an experience that they enjoy.

The Apostle Paul put it this way to some people he met,

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.”
Colossians 2:2‭-‬4 NIV

Introduction: Dealing With Doubt

• An Ancient Story Worth Remembering

Jehoshaphat – 2 Chronicles 20

• A Recent Story I Can’t Forget

Manila – 1988

• A Timeless Principle For Our Times Of Doubt

—___________the antidote for doubt

Praise: The Antidote to Doubt

Psalm 145 – A Classic Model to Follow

Step #1:_____________  to praise God

1I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name forever and ever.
2Every day I will praise you
And extol your name forever and ever.—Psalm 145: 1-2

Step #2: _____________ specific evidence of God’s greatness

3Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
His greatness no one can fathom.
4One generation will commend your works to another;
They will tell of your mighty acts.
5They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty,
And I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6They will tell of the power of your awesome works,
And I will proclaim your great deeds.
7They will celebrate your abundant goodness
And joyfully sing of your righteousness.—Psalm 145: 3-7

Step #3:  ___________on God’s character and adore Him

• He is Good

8The LORD is gracious and compassionate,
Slow to anger and rich in love.
9The LORD is good to all;
He has compassion on all he has made.—Psalm 145: 8-9

(A.W. Tozer: Knowledge of the Holy)
• He is Sovereign

10All you have made will praise you, O LORD;
Your saints will extol you.
11They will tell of the glory of your kingdom
And speak of your might,
12So that all men may know of your mighty acts
And the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13aYour kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And your dominion endures through all generations.—Psalm 145: 10-13a

• He is Faithful

13bThe LORD is faithful to all his promises
And loving toward all he has made.
14The LORD upholds all those who fall
And lifts up all who are bowed down.
15The eyes of all look to you,
And you give them their food at the proper time.
16You open your hand
And satisfy the desires of every living thing.—Psalm 145: 13b-16

• He is Righteous

17The LORD is righteous in all his ways
And loving toward all he has made.
18The LORD is near to all who call on him,
To all who call on him in truth.
19He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
He hears their cry and saves them.
20The LORD watches over all who love him,
But all the wicked he will destroy.—Psalm 145: 17-20

Step #4:  ___________others to praise Him with you

21My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.
Let every creature praise his holy name
Forever and ever.—Psalm 145: 21

Confident Inheritance (Col. 1)

Paul wrote a letter to some friends…

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,  To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ:

Grace and peace to you from God our Father.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you.

In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace

You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit. (Colossians 1:1‭-‬8 NIV)

Colossians 1:9‭-‬23 NIV

For this reason,
since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives

so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way:

bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.

This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Colossians 1:9‭-‬23 NIV

How does God do it? How does he work out life and take care of us in the after life?

I don’t know that any more than I know how he created us in the beginning but through His plan, His way of salvation,  in Christ I trust Him.

I praise Him because He spoke to and worked in and through people like The Apostle Paul…

Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.  He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

Colossians 1:24‭-‬29 NIV

I hope and pray and make myself available so He can work through and us me too.

In Christ,                                               Beetle
