Don’t Pick on the Prick

“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment.

That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging.

It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own.

Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt?

It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part.

Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

“Don’t be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God.

Don’t reduce holy mysteries to slogans.

In trying to be relevant, you’re only being cute and inviting sacrilege.

“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in.

If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate?

As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children.

So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?

“Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior:

Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them .

Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get.

“Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time.
⚠ 🚩🚩🚩🚩Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do.🚩🚩🚩🚩⚠

The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.

“Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other.

Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for character.

Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say.

A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook.

These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned.

“Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance—isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience— doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying,

‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’

And do you know what I am going to say?

‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important.

You don’t impress me one bit.

You’re out of here.’

“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on.

If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house.

It was fixed to the rock.

“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”

When Jesus concluded his address, the crowd burst into applause. They had never heard teaching like this. It was apparent that he was living everything he was saying—quite a contrast to their religion teachers!

This was the best teaching they had ever heard.

Swordfish & virgin births

Some swordfish have now been giving virgin births to preserve their species.

Yes, without the assistance of a male, female swordfish have started giving birth.

Thank God we’ve been offered eternal life through the Holy Spirit’s  work in the virgin Mary giving birth of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Spiritual it is the only way we can be given a new life, rebirth, born again -through accepting,  agreeing,  believing in Christ.

It is then that His Holy Spirit can live in us.

Botfly Vs. Butterfly & The “River Monster” w/Jeremy Wade

Professional author, scientist & angler Jeremy Wade (From series “River Monster”) normal tries to solve mysterious deaths in rivers around the world by catching the fish that caused the death.

Most recently i watched a special on Him where he investigated a possible monster living inside of him that he picked up in his travels.

One lady he came in contact with was bit by a “botfly” that layed an egg in her & eventually lead to her death.

In listening to him, and his strong accent,  i thought he was saying “butterfly”.

Once i clarified he was saying “botfly” i immediately thought about the difference between the two (botfly Vs. Butterfly).

Many times a “botfly” is seen as pretty harmless,  then again so is a small mosquito,  even with its bite.

However,  if the botfly plants its larvae  (egg) it is a whole different out come & source of danger. If a mosquito is carrying malaria its bit  will not only itch but cause all kinds of health issues & can lead to death.

Such little insects and yet they carry such huge poison.

A butterfly on the other hand, doesn’t bite, doesn’t lay eggs in humans and in no way cause health risks or death.

My mind goes to Christ’s Warning of how a little leven goes a long way and how a tiny mustard seed can avail much.

Even a little sin (separation from & not trusting in God) is like the tiniest poison will lead to death.

Even a little faith (joining Him, inviting Him in -trusting & obeying God) will produce life greatly.

Enough said,

Confrontation Vs. Conversation

Some people avoid confrontations.
Conversation sometimes have to begin with confronting someone but that can be done unconfruntational.

Most of us associate confrontation with arguments & taking a defensive stance which many times turn into offensive behavior.

A good conversation can resolve many things but only if approached with an open mind and expressing acceptance toward others opinions regardless of how stong your own opinion is.

Alexx, “If only”

Isaiah 48:18 says if only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

It is such a simple concept to uphold, do as God commands, and yet we have made it seem like rocket science.

It is laid out plain as day word for word not just in the bible but through the Holy Spirits guidance and yet we seem to miss it entirely.

There is a freedom that comes from letting go of the struggles of this world yet this seems so hard to do because of our need to control.

We think if we don’t do things they won’t happen, and this is easy entirely logical, yet when we truly let go we find that God will take the wheel.

Now don’t get me wrong you will most certainly have to do your part in life but God has a way of setting you up for success and

this process allows stress to be completly overlooked.

Go with God,

Fire Sharing (an Alexx devo)

My son shared this devoted thought:
Jeremiah 20:9 says

but if I say I’ll never mention the LORD or speak in His name, His word burns in my heart like a fire, it’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

My son continues,
I remember before getting saved I’d interact with people that were on this level in their relationship with God and it almost came across as to much.

Of course now that I have a relationship with God myself I completly understand where these people were coming from, the Lord has His way of filling your cup till it over flows and this access of over flowing love most certainly should not be wasted.

Though being on both sides of this I have found a gap that I feel we need to find very carefully and it’s it’s a big gap.

When reaching people who are not saved or even still young in faith it can be a bit overwhelming to explain Christ from the stand point of the level your on.

Alexx concludes with,
I have found a better aproach to be,

finding where they are at in their  walk and starting there.

Even the smallest of flames can become a fire but if you blow to hard you will put it out entirely.

God is searching…
“And I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in
the gap before Me for the land that I might not destroy it . . .”
Ezekiel 22:30 (NIV)
… for just one man or woman to “step out” and make
a difference!
The Question:
Review – What does it take to make a difference for God? What kind of person?
1. The 1st prerequisite to Holy Ambition is a ___________ heart.
🔸Do you care?
2. The 2nd prerequisite to Holy Ambition is a ___________ spirit.
🔸Are you dependent?
Prerequisite #3:
3. A ______ ___ ______________ ________ __ .
🔸 Will you step out?

Our Model = Nehemiah
11O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer
of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today
by granting him favor in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.
1 In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was
brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his
presence before;
2 so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you
are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.” I was very much afraid,
3 but I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when
the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed
by fire?”
4 The king said to me, “What is it you want?” Then I prayed to the God of
5 and I answered the king, “If it pleases the king and if your servant has
found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are
buried so that I can rebuild it.”
6 Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him,
asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?” It pleased
the king to send me; so I set a time.
Nehemiah 1:11-2:6 (NIV)

A radical faith is choosing to “step out” to fulfill God’s clearly defined will at great
personal risk and sacrifice.
How Do We Develop a Radical Faith?
1). By remembering what faith is and is not. Hebrews 11:1

2). By remembering how deeply God values our faith. Hebrews 11:6

PLAY 2nd Audio (2nd half in 3rd Part of Series)

3). By remembering what Jesus taught His followers about a radical faith.
🔸Jesus ____________________ them to a radical faith. Luke 9:23-27
🔸Jesus ____________________ the object of their faith. Luke 9:28-45
🔸Jesus __________________ of the dangers of having a radical faith. Luke 9:46-56
🔸Jesus ____________________ the cost of having a radical faith. Luke 9:57-62

4). By remembering you can’t “walk on water if you don’t get out of the boat.”

Luke 10:1-27

Ezekiel 22:30-31
30″I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found
31 So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the
Sovereign LORD.”
Ezekiel 22:30-31 (NIV)

Application/Discussion Questions:
1. What would “stepping out” in faith look like in your personal arena and network of
influence? (Family? Work? Finances? Time? Evangelism?)

2. What might a radical faith look like for you in your present and future ministry?

3. What barriers or fears make stepping out in radical faith difficult for you right
now? Are you “hanging onto” anything that keeps you from following Christ? Is it
stuff? People? The past?

4. What specific step will you take to begin strengthening your faith? Who would
help you follow through on this commitment?

SEARCHING (Google, Daniel or God)

Searching had maybe never been easier.

How interesting to see what we search for, how often & why.

🔸Enagage yourself with a group of friends who all have smart phones, anywhere anytime any place…
(Sit down & join them).
🔸Then ask a random question like,
I wonder how ___________ came about (started)?
🔸Sit back and watch them Google it.
🔸Smile (be amused)

Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was troubled

(He was filled with questions and anxiety to the point of losing sleep…)

and his sleep left him. Then the king gave orders
( no smart phones around so what he did was…)

gave orders to call in

the magicians, the conjurers, the sorcerers and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams.

So they came in and stood before the king. The king said to them,

“I had a dream and my spirit is anxious to understand the dream.”

Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic:

“O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants, and we will declare the interpretation.”

The king replied to the Chaldeans,

“The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb and your houses will be made a rubbish heap. But if you declare the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and a reward and great honor; therefore declare to me the dream and its interpretation.”

They answered a second time and said,

“Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will declare the interpretation.”

The king replied,

“I know for certain that you are bargaining for time, inasmuch as you have seen that the command from me is firm, that if you do not make the dream known to me, there is only one decree for you. For you have agreed together to speak lying and corrupt words before me until the situation is changed; therefore tell me the dream, that I may know that you can declare to me its interpretation.”

The Chaldeans answered the king and said,

“There is not a man on earth

(Or technology)

who could declare the matter for the king, inasmuch as no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any magician, conjurer or Chaldean. Moreover, the thing which the king demands is difficult, and there is no one else who could declare it to the king except gods, whose dwelling place is not with mortal flesh.”

Because of this the king became indignant and very furious and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

So the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they looked for Daniel and his friends to kill them. Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to Arioch, the captain of the king’s bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon; he said to Arioch, the king’s commander,

“For what reason is the decree from the king so urgent?”

Then Arioch informed Daniel about the matter. So Daniel went in and requested of the king that he would give him time, in order that he might declare the interpretation to the king.

Then Daniel went to his house and informed his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, about the matter, so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision.

Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven; Daniel said,

“Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.

(Part 2) Nehemiah 1

Introduction: God is searching…
“For the eyes of the Lord go to and fro throughout the whole earth, that He may
strongly support those whose hearts are completely His.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 (NIV)
…for a select group of people.

The Question:
What does it take to make a difference for God? What kind of person does He promise
to strongly support?
The Answer:
A _____________________________ heart.
Nehemiah 1:1-4
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah:
In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa,
2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I
questioned them about the Jewish remnant that survived the exile, and also about
Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the
province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down,
and its gates have been burned with fire.” 4 When I heard these things, I sat down
and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of

How Do We Develop A Broken Spirit?
Our Model = Nehemiah
Play Part 2 Audio for part 2 of series
🔸A broken spirit begins with a ______________________________________________.
Nehemiah 1:4-6a
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and
fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said: “O LORD, God of
heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those
who love him and obey his commands, 6alet your ear be attentive and your eyes
open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your
servants, the people of Israel.
Nehemiah 1:4-6a (NIV)
🔸 Application: Worship (i.e. Isaiah 6:1-6)

🔸 A broken spirit leads us to an __________________________________________.
Nehemiah 1:6b-7
6b I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have
committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not
obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.
Nehemiah 1:6b-7 (NIV)

🔸Application: Confession (i.e. James 4:7-10 –
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
James 4:7‭-‬10 ESV

🔸 A broken spirit results in a renewed commitment to fulfill ________________.

Nehemiah 1:8-11
8 Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are
unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey
my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will
gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling
for my Name.’
10 They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great
strength and your mighty hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of
this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your
. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of
this man.” I was cupbearer to the king.
Nehemiah 1:8-11 (NIV)

🔸Application: Intercession (i.e. James 5:16 –
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16 ESV

Summary Principles for Impact:
1. We must let God work deeply us before He will work significantly
2. Until we make prayer a , progress and power will never
be a .
3. Difference Makers are not necessarily those with “a lot to give,” but those who make
available all they have.

Discussion Questions:
1. What is a “broken spirit?” Why do you think God always responds so positively to
those who come with a broken spirit?
2. How does one cultivate or develop “a broken spirit?” (See Nehemiah’s model – 3
3. Share one area of your life in which God spoke to you through this message and our
time of confession and prayer together.
4. What one thing will you do beginning this week to be a Nehemiah in your world?
Tell someone your plan and ask them to check up on you.
