“… for as a woman or man thinks within herself/himself, so she/he is.”
Proverbs 23:7a

We are like “Computer Brains”,
IF we put or allow garbage in we’ll have garbage coming out.

Our parents have raised us to the best of their abilities but they are human too.

Here are
Six Essential Ingredients to Help Us Embrace Our Identity in Christ

1). Recognize that the battle is in our mind.

Romans 12:2-3 (NASB)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
For through the grace given to me I say to every man among you not
to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have
sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
Romans 12:2-3 (NASB)

For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16 (NASB)

Ephesians 4:23-24 (NASB)
and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in {the likeness of} God has been created in righteousness and holiness of
the truth.
Ephesians 4:23-24 (NASB)

2 Corinthians 10:4-5
for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the
destruction of fortresses.
{We are} destroying speculations and every lofty thing
raised up against the knowledge of God, and {we are} taking every thought captive
to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NASB)

2). We must have regular and specific times of mind renewal.

A. Regular time spent in God’s Word reaps great benefits.

… for the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged
sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and
marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NASB)

9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping {it} according to Thy
word. 10 With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not let me wander from Thy
commandments. 11Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin
against Thee.
Psalm119:9-11 (NASB)

B. Meditation on God’s Word and memorization of God’s Word will instill God’s truth deep in our hearts. (Internalize not just memorize)

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on
it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in
it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
Joshua 1:8 (NASB)

49 Remember Thy Word to Thy servant, in which Thou has made me hope.
50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that Thy Word has revived me.
Psalm119:49-50 (NASB)

C. We can train our minds to think on what is true.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any
excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (NASB)

Set your mind on the things above, not on the thing that are on earth.
Colossians 3:2 (NASB)

3. Pray and ask God to help us think the way He wants us to.
🔸Personalize Paul’s prayer from Ephesians 1:17-19

“Ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, “Please give me a
spirit of wisdom and of revelation on the knowledge of You. I pray that the eyes
of my heart may be enlightened, so that I may know what is the hope of Your
calling, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints, and what
is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward me.” Ephesians 1:17-19

4). Walk by “faith,” not by sight.

Now faith is the assurance of {things} hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 (NASB)

And without faith, it is impossible to please {Him} for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and {that} He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)

5). Get a partner; God never asked us to “grow” alone.

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if
either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls
when there is not another to lift him up.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NASB)

6). Our own words of encouragement (backed with the truth of God’s word) may help develop a healthy self-image in
another’s life.

Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such {a word} as is
good for edification according to the need {of the moment,} that it may give grace
to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29 (NASB)

Examples of Mis-belief vs. Truth of God’s Word (write on 3×5 cards).

write a reoccurring negative thought you have on a 3×5 card, FOR EXAMPLE:

I need other people’s approval in order to be happy

Then write ❎STOP❎ flip card over and write truth backed by God’s word -write,

I want people’s approval but I do not need it. With God’s approval I am no longer compelled to earn Love & acceptance. I am free to be me, who I truly am in Christ.

Another example:

Lie- my value as a person depends on what others think of me. ❎STOP❎ flip card over…

FLIP CARD OVER AND on other side of card write the truth, pure thought backed by God’s word. Write,

My value as a person has already been determined by God because of my relationship to Christ. I will not give the power to any human being to determine my value.

Just as we turn card over, so also, we can turn our thoughts over to God, letting HIM develop His truth in us and correct our Mis-belief s into PURE THOUGHTS He gives for us to live accurately in Him.

Again, keep these verses in your mind & heart (internalize them)

When you sit down to dine with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you, And put a knife to your throat If you are a man of great appetite.

Do not desire his delicacies, For it is deceptive food.

Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, Cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone.

For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, Or desire his delicacies;
For as he thinks within himself, so he is.

He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, And waste your compliments.
Proverbs 23:1‭-‬8 NASB

Being careful what we take into our minds & hearts & not feeding on what people feed us, but rather, feed on every Word that comes from God, THE BREAD OF LIFE.

In Christ,
