Introduction: Need a miracle?
1. If you could ask God to do a miracle in your life, what would it be?
2. Why did Jesus perform miracles?

The Lord Jesus Christ always has a purpose when He does a miracle.

Looking at John Chapter 6,
Recall -Passover feast was near, people visiting, 5,000 mentioned here was just counting men, not women & children. Could be 10 – 20,000 people.

Miracles – always have purpose,  show God’s heart, compassion,  reveals authentication of Him as God

Notice: you will see Jesus teaching,
Grace, truth, grace, truth -one right after the other. He states His grace, then gives some truth (even if it hurts a little) Then states grace again.

He clarifies who He us and the truth about the authority to judge us but also reminds us how much grace He gives.

Chip will jump around a bit & jump between miracles so it is a lil’ hard to follow notes in order but i took notes best i could.

Miracle #1: Jesus feeds the 5,000: John 6:1-15
(Discriptions of culture & food in audio)
🔸The “Sign” – fed over 5,000 people

🔸The Lesson – if we bring Him limited resources He will increase them, He has the power & desire to help you and bless it, increase it, multiply it.

🔸 The Response – they try to make him king (politically)
(Duet.18 recall Moses)

Page 2 of notes
Miracle #2: Jesus walks on the water: John 6:16-21
🔹The “Sign” –

🔹The Lesson – invite Jesus into storms of life He will rescue you. (Chip gives personal examples of friend healed, prayer for a women in his church).
God is constantly Authenticating His power. He was us to know, the disciples back then to know He is able to go against the “laws” of nature.  HE IS BEYOND ALL THAT WE THINK WE KNOW. He is able to do what we cannot.

🔹The Response – What was their response, keep in mind what He was preparing then for, all the traveling they were to do later.

STOP WITH NOTES HERE BUT AUDIO WILL GO ON FOR A BIT
✳Pray along with Prayer on audio ✳
(Audio continues but audio 2 will pick back up right here)

*Pick up John 6:25

Jesus exposes the error of “Spiritual Consumerism”: John 6:22-29
🔼The Rebuke – not a self help geni, not a spiritual vending machine, not here for you whims.
Exposing the air of spiritual consumerism.

🔼The Lesson – it is not all about you, it is about God & trusting Him (deep belief & confidence)

Don’t give your life for things that are temporal but things that are eternal.

🔼The Invitation – get personal,  develop a relationship with Jesus.

Jesus popularity is about to change (*review in above notes – John 6:25)

About relationship & love not take, take, take.
Wants 2 way relationship.

BREAD
The people ask for “proof” of Jesus’ claims: John 6:30-40

6X in this passage He uses phrase,

HE WHO COMES DOWN FROM HEAVEN.

🔼A Miracle Requested – want a sign. Proof of claims.

🔼 An Explanation Given – better than Moses.

Page 3 of notes
🔼 A Promise Made – I am the bread of life, only satisfaction

🔼Another Invitation Extended – bread of life available,  seek 1st the Kingdom of God.

The people reject Jesus’ invitation: John 6:41-42
Jesus repeats His offer of eternal life: John 6:43-51 (grace)
Jesus amplifies the condition of His offer of eternal life: John 6:52-65
📍The Condition – metephorically,  partake of Him. Let Him inside.
Crucified with Christ.
Abide.
Stay “connected”.
Become 1 in an intimate relationship.

📍The Meaning of the Condition –
o Then? Lord’s supper
o Now?  Intellectually  (mind) connected with Soul (Spirit). Rom. 12 offer body as living sacrifice.

Page 4
Those who see the miracles respond in one of two ways: John 6:66-71
▫The Disciples of Convenience – __defect___ (verse 56)
▫The Disciples of Conviction – __dedication ___
Conclusion: Do you want ________________ or simply something
_________________ & __________________?

Mark 8 (if follow Him, deny self).

Discussion Questions:
1. Why did Jesus perform miracles?

2. What impact did miracles have on His followers?

3. What are the dangers of “spiritual consumerism?”

4. What did Jesus mean when He said, “I am the bread of life?”

5. What would it look like for you to fully partake of “the bread of life?” Explain.

Introduction: Quenching your spiritual thirst
 Thirst – “A strong wish for something; an appetite, craving, hankering,
longing for, yearning, or passionate desire for” -Webster

 Satisfaction – “The feeling experienced when one’s wishes are met; content,
delighted, happy, enjoyment, gladness, gratification, relish” -Webster

 Dissatisfied – “Not content, happy, or pleased with something or someone;
miserable, aggravated, gloomy, melancholy, despondent,
restless, annoyed” -Webster
Jesus’ promise of satisfaction:
… Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to
Me and drink! He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me]
as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs
and rivers of living water…”
John 7:37-38
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
John 7:37-38 NIV
http://bible.com/111/jhn.7.37-38.NIV
Solomon’s counsel for satisfaction: Proverbs 2:1-6
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Introduction: Jesus, me, and my failure
1). What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made? What’s the greatest regret in
your life?
2). Put another way, what “one thing” do you wish you could do over?
3). How do you picture God’s attitude toward you when you think of this blemish
in your past?
4). How have you chosen to deal with this failure in your life? (Hide it? Forget it?
Make up for it? Learn from it? Try harder?)

A story to ponder: John 8:1-11

but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
John 8:1-11 NIV
http://bible.com/111/jhn.8.1-11.NIV

A truth to remember:

For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

(good question, “WHERE’S THE MAN?”)

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest
relationship with the Father, has made Him known (John 1:17-18)

God will always greet you with ___________________ and ______________________.
 We can receive _________________________ and _____________________________.
 All grace = ____________________ and _______________ _________________.
 All truth = ____________________________.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our sin from us.

Review John 1:17-18 & women in John 8 How God gives Grace & follows up with a truth.
Psalm 103 & 1 Jn. 1:9 mentioned above again.

Chip gives personal example of friend…

Sexual sin is an __addiction ___.
🔸 It’s devastating.
🔸 It impacts relationships.
🔸 It cuts off the _________________ and ___________________ of God
in significant ways.

(while listening to audio if you can’t follow all the notes & fill in the blanks just listen & hear what The Holy Spirit has for you).

Why is it devastating?

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?

Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes
nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor
swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11

Page 3 of online notes

Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is
permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. Food for the stomach and
the stomach for food, but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual
immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 1Corinthians 6:12-13

By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also. Do you not
know that your bodies are members of Christ Himself? Shall I then take the members of
Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites
himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one
flesh. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:14-17

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you
have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore
honor God with your body. 1Corinthians 6:19-20

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he
who sins sexually sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18

A very practical way to come home
 Jesus is saying,
“Neither do I condemn you [grace], now go and sin no more [truth]. John 8:11

 When the prodigal son came to his senses he turned and went home.
See Luke 15:17-24

H.O.M.E.

H Honesty – It’s the painfully difficult first step
The Lord is near to those who call upon Him, to those who call upon Him in truth.
Psalm 145:18

O Openness – God fills clean vessels
If we say we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and
the truth is not in us. But if we walk in the light, as even He Himself is in the light,
the blood of Jesus [keeps on continuously freeing and forgiving us]. 1 John 1:6-7

M Mentor – Get over the shame of someone knowing
But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called today,
lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:13

E Exit – Be as drastic as you need to be
You have heard it said, “Do not commit adultery.” But I tell you that anyone who
looks a t a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your right eye causes you to sin,3 gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for
you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better
for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Matthew 5:27-30

Discussion Questions:
1). Do you actually believe God forgives? What does it mean that He has removed our
sin “as far as the east is from the west”?
2). In your response to others’ sin, do you have a tendency toward either all grace or all
truth? Has this message equipped you for a better balance? Explain.
3). If you are willing to share, have you experienced restoration and freedom from sin?
How did that happen?

Introduction: Everyone “follows” something or someone
🔸Some follow in the footsteps of their family.
🔸Some follow a philosophy about life.
🔸Some follow a religious leader or spiritual path.
🔸Some follow their own intuition.
🔸Some follow whatever is popular.
🔸Some follow a formula for success.

Three important questions:
1). Who, or what, do you _Think__ you follow?
2). Who, or what, does your time, money, and energy _reveal__ you follow?
3). Why would anyone follow Jesus Christ?

Hearing God’s voice from John Chapter 8…
begin at verse 12

(Chip at one point says Jn 12:8 but he means John Eight verse twelve )

The Context: When, where, and why – does this intensified conflict occur?

Page 2
of notes from online

The Content: Jesus challenges the status quo.
🔸Jesus’ declaration and promise John 8:12
🔸Pharisees challenge Jesus’ credibility John 8:13-20
🔸 Jesus warns of the consequences of unbelief: John 8:21-30
o You’ll _________ in your sin.
o You’ll only know who I am ___________ the cross.
o ______ ______ put their faith in Him.

🔸Jesus defines the “acid test” of true discipleship: John 8:31-53

1). If you obey My Word… the result is you will have _________________.
2). If you love Me… the result is you will ___________________ from God.
3). If you keep My Word… the result is you will _____________ ________.

The Climax: Jesus is the great “I AM.” John 8:54-59

🔸Pharisees attempt to stone Him.
Why should anyone follow Jesus?
1). He’s the ____________ of the world.
2). You’ll ______________ in your sins.
3). He’s ____________ with the Father.
4). The Father testifies _________ Him.
5). He ____________________ sinned.
6). He’ll be the ___________________.
7). He’s one with _________________.

1). A Promise to claim:
Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
Jesus – John 8:12
🔸What does it mean to walk in the light?
🔸How do you walk in the light?
🔸What are the results?

2). A Command to obey:
If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free. Jesus – John 8:31-32

🔸What does it mean to “hold to Jesus’ teaching”?
🔸Why is this the “real test” of discipleship?
🔸What is the result?

3). An Example to follow:
If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the things Abraham did.
Jesus – John 8:39
🔸What did Abraham do? Romans4:20-21
Hebrews 11:8-10
🔸What would it look like, in your life, to really trust God?
