What is in a sermon title?

The THOMPSON CHAIN REFERENCE BIBLE has a Chain topic (#1672) of “Family Bible Readings” that go well with another post i did a while back (Unusual Things In the Bible).

I think these Bible Story names or titles alone will spark interest.

For example:
“The woman who prayed with her fingers” (Mt. 9:20-22)
“Mr. Selfishness, Mr. Curiosity, Mr. Kind-hearted” (Lk 10:30-37)
“The Eating and Drinking Contest” (Dan. 1:3-15) This one could even read like a front page newspaper headline “Eating Contest Won By 4 Men”
“The Man Lions Would Not Eat” (Dan. 6:1-22)
“3 Fish Stories” (Jn. 1:1-17; 2:1-10; Lk. 5:4-8; Jn. 21:4-11)
“5 girls, out in the cold” (Mt. 25:1-13)
“38 years by the poolside” (Jn. 5:1-9)
“The Fatal Lie” or “Can A Lie Kill You?” (Ac. 5:1-10)

Please let me know if this sparked a sermon for you or a special story time for you and your children, i’d love to hear about it! Reply or comment below.

  1. Major Rebecca Mott has had some really good sermon titles; “Rot or Grow” and one of my favorites and i think i altered this title a little but it was “I want to be like Samuel’s Mom” or was it “Samuel’s Mom Has Got It Going On!” (1st Sam. 1:1-20)
